Fall is a Time of ChangeBy February Fortescue
Fall was Karina's favorite time of year. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold - just cool enough for a light jacket. The deciduous trees had leaves all ablaze with reds and golden hues, and reminded her of the flowers of spring, except in tree form. There were two visual differences between the two seasons, however: spring had muted colors, while fall was much more vivid, and in springtime nature was coming back to life, while in fall so much life was dying.
Karina never liked the feeling of loss which came with the sound of every leaf on the ground which crunched beneath her feet. She stood under the Red Maple with its leaves of gold; many of those leaves had yet to fall. They looked glorious, with the sunlight shining through, although the sun itself was hidden from view. Standing there taking it all in, Karina suddenly realized that nature had a lesson to teach. The trees were letting go of their leaves so they could thrive and survive. The leaves served no purpose now. The changed was needed, and change was beautiful. Karina needed the same in her own life. There were people and habits and moments in her own life which she was clinging to which no longer held any purpose and were sapping her energy, and she needed to let them go. Change and loss were necessary, and beautiful, too. A sudden gust of wind came along and scattered many of the once hanging leaves to the wind, and Karina could suddenly see the sun. She could see clearly now, her view no longer blocked by the leaves.
