Welcome back to the Top 10 Songs!
Some of you may remember this list from the Wizarding Times. Well, I am happy to say that it is making a comeback, now in the Howler! This summer edition consists of some familiar favourite artists, such as Harry Styles, Imagine Dragons, Justin Bieber, and Ed Sheeran, but there are also a few new artists. Check below to find out more about this month’s HOT 10 Songs! 1. As It Was – Harry Styles
Originally released to promote his third album, ‘As It Was’ was written by Kid Harpoon, Tyler Johnson and, of course, Harry himself. According to the singer, this song is about the ‘metamorphosis' and embracing change of former self. 2. Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) – Kate Bush Seeing this song being on top of the list was a bit of a shock to me since the song was released in 1985! Yes, this song is 37 years old! It was written and produced by the singer herself. Kate said that the song is primarily about the differences between men and women and how, despite all efforts, they may never fully understand each other. 3. Heat Waves – Glass Animals Some of you who read this chart back in the WT may remember this song well as it made the top 10 in the last edition of the magazine. Yes! This song managed to stay in the top 10 for a year, and even climbed up! Currently at number 3, ‘Heat Waves’ was written and produced by Dan Bayley. It is about Dan and how he remained strong despite vulnerable moments in his life. He embraces his vulnerability. Although unconfirmed, it can be assumed that the song is about his ex-girlfriend and how much he has ‘lost’ by dating her. 4. Wasted On You – Morgan Wallen An example of a ‘new’ artist is certainly Morgan Wallen! This 29 year old from Tennessee, USA, started off as a contestant in The Voice and later, in 2018, released his debut album. The song ‘Wasted On You’ is a song from his second album called ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’ released in January 2021. This song was written by ERNEST, Charlie Handsome, John Thompson and Morgan himself. 5. Enemy – Imagine Dragons and JID Imagine Dragons have been around since 2002 and so many of their songs enjoyed significant popularity, such as ‘Demons’ or ‘Bet My Life’. This song, however, was released for the League of Legends’ animated series, Arcane. Written by the whole band as well as Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson and Wayne Sermon, and produced by Mattman and Robin, the song is about the internal conflict in a world where it feels impossible to trust even yourself. 6. Late Night Talking – Harry Styles Another song by Harry, which was written for his third solo album. Produced by Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon, as well as being written by Harry and Harpoon, the song does not have a confirmed meaning, which lead to fans speculating that the song reflects upon one of his relationships. 7. Ghost – Justin Bieber Yet another hit by the legendary singer Justin Bieber. ‘Ghost’ was written by quite a lot of people – Michael Pollack, Stefan Johnson, Jordan K. Johnson, Jon Bellion and lastly, Justin Bieber. It was produced by Bellion, The Monsters and Strangerz. According to the writers, the song is about the feeling of grief, and the feeling when one leaves their relatives, which was a common situation for many families during the COVID19 pandemic. Bellion, one of the main writers of the song, admitted that he wrote this song about his grandmother. 8. Bad Habits – Ed Sheeran I have to admit, this has been one of my favourite songs for a couple of months! This wonderful song was written and produced by Fred again, Johnny McDaid and of course, Ed Sheeran himself. The song is about reflecting on past bad habits, such as partying and what these actions can lead to. 9. Take My Name – Parmalee Parmalee are an American band from North Carolina (yes, they are a country music band). The band have been active since 2001 and have had 8 songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, such as ‘Carolina’ or ‘Just the Way’. The band consists of four members – Barry Knox, Josh McSwain, Matt Thomas, and Scott Thomas (the last two are brothers, and Knox is their cousin!). This song was written by Ashley Gorley, Ben Johnson, Matt Thomas and David Fanning (who also produced it). The lyrics strongly imply that the song is about the moment when you fall in love with that one person, and everything seems crazy. 10. Bam Bam – Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran Yet another song with Ed Sheeran in this list, but this time it’s a collaboration on a song by Camila Cabello. This song was written by Scott Harris, Cheche Alara, Ricky Reed, Ed Sheeran and Camila herself. It was produced by Daniel Uribe, Reed, Alara and Edge. Those who have been following the singer’s past life, can easily figure out the meaning behind the song. It explores her relationship with Shawn Mendes and how she is trying to move on and accept losing a partner. |
