1. The Hunter of the Dark - Donato Carrisi
WARNING: This book may not be suitable for everyone. The recommended age is 16+. In Rome, capital of Italy, the lights go down for 24h. According to a script written by Leon X, Rome should never go into the darkness because it will cause mayhem. The town goes into panic, and with a mysterious killer on the loose, only one person can solve the mystery. After reading this book, I can tell that I found my new favourite writer. Such a wonderful thriller, I could not put the book down - really intriguing story! I have heard it was turned into a movie that I am yet to see. 2. Norse Mythology - Neil Gaiman Perfect book if you want to learn some new things! Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman explores the world of the Vikings and the wonderful stories Scandinavians used to believe in. Written in accessible language, the book allows everyone to enjoy the myths in a new way! I loved this book because it really taught me more about the Norse mythology. It was not boring at all, which I was kind of worried about. The language was indeed really simple, so anyone could read this book and enjoy it! 3. Ghosts of Essex - Betty Puttick This book is a wonderful collection of ghost stories and unexplained encounters in Essex, East of England (United Kingdom). Betty was a wonderful writer and her stories manage to interest even the biggest sceptics. Mixed with reminiscences of good old days, as well as legends, Betty adds magic and mystery to the everyday lives of the locals. I really enjoyed this book because it was written in easy language and in a rather fascinating way. The stories were not boring and it was so fun to read about seemingly ordinary places and how special they can be with a bit of creativity! 4. At Night. A guide for the Wakeful - Alex Quick
The book explores the night. Yes, it sounds weird, but it isn't, really. 102 wonderful and inspirational stories discover the beauty of the night, which we often ignore with modern technology all around us. Illustrated by James Nunn, the book is ideal for all those, who may struggle with insomnia or just want to see the world in the darkness. I have to admit, I found this book by a total accident and simply fell in love. What a wonderful book. It has so many wonderful illustrations by James Nunn. The letters are rather large, which is good, especially with my eyesight. Also, the language is pretty simple and the chapters are separated in a way that makes reading quick and adjustable. 5. Werewolves - Dr. Bob Curran This book is for all those who love history and mystery at the same time. Dr. Bob Curran explores the real meaning behind the word 'werewolf', as well as discussing the fictional side of this creature. Accompanied with breathtaking illustrations by Ian Daniels, this book is a must for all wolf lovers! I have to admit, this book was really interesting. I have learned so many new things just by reading it! For example, did you guys know that 'werewolves' were once soldiers, who dressed up in wolves skins? How cool is that! And yes, Ian Daniels did draw this scene as well! Definitely check it out! |
