Slytherin Happenings
By Emily Spencer
Greetings from Slytherin House!
The start of the new school year brought great changes to our House. Professor Scarlet Leslie-Lewis, who has been Slytherin's Head of House for many years, took a much-earned retirement and is now Professor Emeritus. Replacing Professor Scarlet as Head of Slytherin is the very capable Professor Will Lestrange. Even though we are all sad to see Scarlet's exit, we know that we are in very capable hands! Those were not the only staff changes to occur this term. Last year, we were lucky enough to have three lovely Promising Students join our ranks. This school year sees them promoted to full Prefects, joining myself (Emily Spencer) as the Slytherin Prefect Team. Kudos and a round of butterbeer to Aurelia West, Louis Walles, and Lucia Dinapoli. Last year saw the end of Harry Potter Read-Along (sad), but we are happy to announce that the tradition started years ago will continue, just taking a slightly different path. General Consensus has it that the great wizard, Merlin, would have been sorted into Slytherin had he chosen to attend Hogwarts. In honor of that, Read-Along is centering around the life of Merlin, as told by author, Mary Stewart in her Merlin series of books. The first book is the Crystal Cave, which we are currently in the midst of reading. You can join any time: this long-term event has weekly trivia, discussion, and activities galore, so there is a little something for everyone. Come join the fun! Slytherin's roleplay section, found under "Slytherin Tales" has been revived with monthly roleplay prompts to get the action rolling. Jump in anytime; we would love to have you along for the ride! Last, but certainly not least, Slytherin offers a monthly Puzzle Exchange, hosted by Louis Walles, and the Arcade Club, hosted by Professor Will Lestrange. We invite everyone to participate and earn some scales along the way. That's all for now. *coils* to all of you until next time! Gryffindor Goings OnBy Iverian Gnash
While the Den is slowly winding down as students and staff clean up after Gryfftoberfest, the whirl of Gryffindor excitement is always flowing through the halls!
Gryfftoberfest was quite the party, although confetti has been showing up everywhere since! Luckily, everyone returned safely without any major injuries (although the souvenirs have become quite the problem as far as storage is concerned). With November having sprung upon us, Gryffindor is looking forward to a relaxing month of roleplaying as we adventure to meet new people and explore new scenarios. Our roleplay has been quite a hit since being introduced last year. We’ve all enjoyed adventuring into new places to meet new and old faces alike! In other news, Gryffindor has officially brought back the Paw Print! It now has a completely new look and implementation. The Paw Print will be a termly magazine that students and staff of all houses can earn an immense amount of rubies from by submitting their creative works! This term’s theme is ‘red and gold’ and we’d love to see anything you can come up with. As always, Peeves Place and the Fat Lady’s Portrait are full of entertaining games and discussions to spark new conversations and our competitive sides! Now for our amazing student spotlight. Our highest point earner this term (at the time of writing) is first-year Olive Granger with a truly impressive number of points! Great work, Olive! Keep an eye on the Den as the winter months roll in for lots of winter fun! |
Ravenclaw ReportBy Silvana Mandeville
Welcome to Ravenclaw Report. I hope every one of you has a great time this term!
During November, in Ravenclaw we have our annual activity going on: the Blue and Bronze Olympics 2021 with the theme of Wheel of the Covens. And this time BBO is open to all HOLers. So, come to have fun together with us in our common room and of course to win the Medallions! Aside from BBO 2021, in Ravenclaw we have Ice Breakers with all kinds of games that might interest you all. Also, there is a Debate Club for any of you who love to speak your minds - there are a lot of topics to talk about. For Eagles, as always we have our E=MC Hammer where you can share or discuss everything about Pop Culture. There are a few months left and we will come to the end of the term. Don't forget to finish your assignments before the due dates. Enjoy the rest of the Fall Term, HOLers! Hufflepuff HappeningsBy Amy Darvill
Hufflepuff House here, to welcome you to another school year here at HOL! The head of House position has remained in Prof. Felicia Hartwick and Prof. Zoki Phantom's capable hands, with Prof. Tarma Amelia Black offering a helping hand as well. And I should know this quite well as both Prof. Felicia Hartwick and Prof. Tarma have been extremely helpful in guiding me into my new role.
Last year, both Harry Walles and myself (Amy Darvill) were asked to be mini prefects and at the start of this term, we were both promoted to full-time Prefects. As such, we are now helping or even running events, alongside Eve Roarke, a mini prefect who's been such a patient dear with me. As I've mentioned, events are going on, tucked away among nooks and crooks of our underground common room. Starting with the Fireplace, Harry Walles runs the Musical Wizard activity, which focuses on a different musical artist each month. Also in the Fireplace, Eve has her special corner, where she offers discussion, trivia, and other fun little tidbits. If you take a left from the main Fireplace room and go two doors, past the Giant Birthday card, you'll find the Creative Club room. Here we have monthly coloring pages (usually two a month, one at the beginning, one near the middle or end) for you to relax with. Or if you would rather relax with jigsaws, Harry has introduced the Wizarding Jigsaw Challenge, which will be running throughout the school year. Taking the next hallway to the right, you'll see our own department of games: the Department of Huffle Games and Sports. Every month, there are new puzzles and games to test your might, your logic and sometimes your patience. (Those 2048 puzzles just never quite work out in my favor--One day!) They are usually themed according to the month or sometimes other events going on. On the opposite side of the hall is our special classroom/museum/observatory... you name it. It's a sort of room of requirement that changes every month to focus on a new wonder of our world. We Hufflepuffs strive to see the good and majestic in everything and everyone, so you never know what you'll see in there next. We do hope you'll come and explore our cozy common room, have some lovely chats and enjoy some games along the way. Maybe even earn a few diamonds, who knows? Until then, take a muffin, and we hope to see you soon! |
